PLACER DE GEMIDOS and GMDS D PLCR together make up THE PLEASURE OF SCREAMS, an exploration of Jess Franco's 1983 film Gemidos de Placer. Both films conceptually and structurally deconstruct and recontextualize Franco's film into a flattened narrative, condensing the original hour and twenty minute film into 9 1/2 minutes.

PLACER DE GEMIDOS

The fifteen longest scenes from Franco's film have been seperated and layered horizontally on the image plane. All progress in the film's sense of real time. Occasionally different scenes from various points in the movies interact with other scenes from various points in the movie. The narrative has been flattened, but the image remains dymanic.

GMDS D PLCR

Taking a cue from Michael Snow's reconstruction of Wavelength into WVLNT, GMDS D PLCR (the title also an homage to the Snow film) layers the fiften primary scenes from Franco's film on top of each other as transparent layers. Once again the film is delinearized and the narrative is flattened.
